Kicks on Route 66 by catch---22 Kicks on Route 66 by catch---22
If you ever plan to motor west,
Travel my way, take the highway that is best.

Get your kicks
On Route 66...

[link] Bobby Troup - a cool dude and also the most laid back. emergency room doctor. ever.

----------
Decades of kicks scratched on the interior wall  of an old rock gas station along the mother road. I don't know why but "Mack was here" is my favorite. Seems like a subject that should have a "Mack" involved. "fill 'er up, Mack... want I should check under the hood, Mack?" Some modern day hyroglyphics and petroglyphs on the north side of Route 66, three miles east of Arcadia. (35.660266,-97.273798)

you can see just a small strip of Route 66 looking out the left window.

I need to find the pic of the other window... someone had left a prayer for my soul (and everyone else) under a rock.

Human beings have always been drawn to the beauty and majesty of nature, but nature invites us to look deeper. It's as if God is hiding behind every tree,...... under every rock,.... over every hill, across every meadow, at the bottom of every lake, through every cloud, on the wings of every bird, and in the eyes of every animal.

It's as if God is playing hide-and-seek with us and waiting for us to discover the One in all, all for One, free for all. in an accident waiting to happen in every foxhole

Oh yea, .....Great historic shot, this must be one of the few wonderful sights on this road.....
that so many dream of travelling and as Dave said on a bike, but i think a camper van would be
required, so you can take your time ...and enjoy the sights....hit the road mack :D

I took a similar photo while on vacation. :) People had carved things into the walls of an old sugar mill built by slaves and later destroyed by native indigenous people. Fitting end, really.

It is funny how we try to leave an indelible mark. You are doing a good job of it, btw.

I wonder what was there before the sugar mill... a cool story.

is this about me writing helter skelter on my one bud's head when he passed out during another bud's bachelor party?

Well, it is called the Dunlawton Sugar Mill. I think I spelled it properly. And there was something there before, but no one is certain if it was a spanish mission or maybe an old plantation.
It was quite the historial adventure. :)

Yep. I totally read that on a dA bathroom wall a few months back.
Honestly...why would anyone think it was safe to pass out at a bachelor party?? I think he is lucky he woke up with all his hair. Or didnt he?? :stare::o

oh he was pretty bald then. one of those bald at twenty type peeps. that's what got me. I had taken pity on him and carried him into a backroom to sleep it off. when I put him down my fountain pen fell out, I saw the bald head, helter skelter came to mind and I just couldn't help myself.

alol, I'm not sure I've ever laughed so hard by myself before or since. it was also pretty funny when he woke up later and walked in.

Bald can be beautiful. I'm not sure if graffiti can enhance that, lol, but I've been wrong before. You are a good friend, alol. Mostly. I mean...you could have written so many 'worser' things when your pen conveniently fell out.

Soooo...did you admit it was you? Or has he been seeking handwriting matches ever since?

I know, Right?

drawing little cat whiskers was tempting but it would have messed with the sublimity of the helter skelter.

...and alol, I didn't have to. everyone in the bar kept looking at his forehead and giggling. for some reason when he came out of the restroom with it smeared but still on, he was glaring at me.

Sublimity of Helter Skelter.
...sounds like a title for someones future deviation. *smirk*
OMGosh, you were at a bar? Now that is funny.
My juvenile mind was thinking something more like, "Show me your boobs."

He recognized your handwriting!!! hahaaha. Or just your modus operandi.

throw a "The" in front of it and it would make a great name for a band.

...and no. I was the guy he had, not to long ago, thanked for taking care of him. it seemed he had regrets. alol. a superb bachelor party, I was the only out-of-towner and they all blamed me for everything after I left. the groom's wife still doesn't like me.

Wow...so many things to look at here. I love the 'hieroglyphics'. Looks like years of them. I particularly love the door and window views...looks like the viewer needs to make a choice of the dark door or climbing out the window to escape into the light.

Cool song. One of my favs since Bobby Troup is my cousin (my grandmother's first cousin in fact). He would visit her and play piano and sing for us on occasion. :D

well then I am hopping out the window! it really was an interesting little pause sitting in there and reading... marks upon marks upon marks. on the windowsill opposite the image someone had left a little note from jesus under a rock.

...and get outta here!!! how cool is that? I always remember him as the ER doc on "Emergency" first and then remember he had this over the top cool song. truly one of the most iconic american compositions ever.

thank you Laura

Me too! A cool find indeed. :) Maybe the little note from Jesus was someone deciding between the light and the dark. :giggle:

and yep. Was pretty awesome. Of course, I was young and really didn't quite know him as anyone other than Uncle Bobby who sang at the piano for us. Then we started watching Emergency and since he was on TV, he was then a celebrity to us. lol
