Horny by catch---22 Horny by catch---22
I know... I know... I'm hopelessly juvenile.

----------
How the West was won... A wild Texas Longhorn at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. You do not want to mess with these guys. They are fowl and evil tempered. The Bison even keep their eye on them. The Bison would of course win any exchange but they generally don't pay attention to anyone or anything other than themselves. To have them show any concern means you are one bad mofo. This is an old one that I held off posting because I figured there would be a lack of interest... but since it's a favorite of mine I went with it. Sunset on the Range.

this is at 300mm and I could hear him saying, "really... seriously, dude?"

I, like everything else, give them a wide berth.

Progenitors of present-day longhorns date to Neolithic times and were
first domesticated in Europe from Asiatic stock. Villalobos, a Spanish
explorer, brought them to Mexico in 1521. Once the prime beef cattle of
the United States, improved breeds forced the longhorn into virtual
extinction. A nucleus herd was brought to the refuge in 1927 from the
lower Rio Grande region and the herd is maintained for historic
posterity.[link]

 I always hated having to work with or haul longhorns! You are right--mean, ornery, foul-tempered and just itching to run you through with those horns. Damn things would poke holes in the roof of the trailer--just destroy them. :frustrated: The only other breed of cattle I hated as much were Chianina-cross. (chianinas crossed with either brahma or longhorn or--God forbid--both!) Long legged bastards could kick you from across the pen! :matrixfight:

Anyway, it's a good shot here, Dennis but you should have used a rifle instead

lol I can't imagine what a trailer full of these would be like other than them and it would be swiss cheese in a few miles

I have no experience with them other than this heard... and the only stories one ever hears of "incidents" on the refuge are with these cusses. so like I say, I wide berth 'em.

Must be something the Vikings brought over, eh? :D :D Actually, the Vikings didn't really wear horns.

Looks almost hilarious in that set of horns. I think the sharp points used to be sawed off quite a ways down? Wouldn't old wine corks worked just as well? :D I didn't know the longhorns were near extinction.

Very interesting shot. Kinda scary though. Especially for you. Are you good at lassoing the horns to the hind legs? If so, no worries. :D :D
