I slowly walked towards the group intently looking at the ground. (a trick that often works on herding animals) then as I aimed the camera, one head came up... then hundreds... then they all trotted away from me.

a superb evening near ridgeway, colorado... you can see the sheperd's camper near the tree line to the left.
